God Speaks Through You: How the Holy Spirit Unites Believers

Building a relationship with God changes everything, and it is not just a private feeling. To be with God is to start a new life with a vast, worldwide family.
This happens because the Holy Spirit unites believers.
When you follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit connects your heart to those who follow Him. Then, you are no longer alone, and you become part of a community bound by a love that comes from God Himself.
Virginia Metzler’s book, Our God Still Speaks, is filled with true stories showing this.
“The fact that God still speaks today is undeniable. This book is proof of that.”
God speaks to guide us, comfort us, and very often, to draw us closer to each other. This is the beautiful work of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Unites Believers in a New Family
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. – 1 Corinthians 12:12
When you become a Christian, you are adopted into God’s family, a family that is not based on your bloodline or your background but is based on shared faith.
This creates a powerful bond in Christ.
You see this in Virginia’s stories: after her first husband died in Africa, she felt utterly alone, but God sent people to surround her with love through her friends from the mission, Ray and Sophie, who “were so encouraging to [her]” and gave her books and comfort. Then, another couple, the Wallens, gave up their own tickets to fly home so Virginia and her children could leave Africa.
This was a considerable sacrifice.
“The love shown by my brother and sister in Christ in this way made my most difficult situation much easier to bear.”
This is how the Holy Spirit unites believers in ways that change lives, with strangers becoming family, and God is at the center.
Connected by the Holy Spirit Across All Barriers
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. – Galatians 3:28
The unity that the Spirit creates breaks down every wall. It does not matter where you are from, what language you speak, or what you look like. Virginia’s life proves this.
In the Philippines, she and her husband, Les, lived in a remote village without knowing how to speak the language. Yet, they were invited to a prayer meeting, where she describes sitting in the dark with her new neighbors:
“We listened while our brothers and sisters in Christ verbalized their needs to our God in their own Ayangan language. It was a moment in time that we will never forget.”
They could not understand the words, but the Holy Spirit connected them. They were all talking to the same Father, and this spiritual unity through the Spirit is much, much stronger than any language barrier.
One Church Under God and Serving Each Other
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2
Being one church under God means helping and paying attention to one another. The Holy Spirit often uses one person to answer another person’s prayer.
In Virginia’s stories, God provided for her family through other believers.
While training in the mountains, she and Les ran out of food. Thus, they prayed and, soon after, their friend Don hiked up with a gift box.
It was filled with exactly the food they needed.
“Les and I both wept together at the incredible way God had answered our prayers.”
Later, friends back in Texas, Raymond and Barbara, felt burdened to send a care package. Raymond went to the store in the middle of a stormy night to pack it.
Virginia calls this “the beautiful example demonstrated by Raymond and Barbara shows us how the body of Christ functions.”
This is harmony through divine guidance.
The Holy Spirit prompted Raymond, and a need worldwide was met. This is how God’s family works.
Harmony Through Divine Guidance in Prayer
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; – Ephesians 6:18
Prayer is a powerful glue that holds believers together. So, when we pray for each other, we join God’s work in their lives. Virginia saw this repeatedly: she had a group of friends who met weekly to pray, who constantly prayed for their families and for a good church.
“Our group experienced true ‘koinonia’ fellowship… Whatever one needed, the rest of us tried to meet that need. It was a beautiful thing to see and experience. And it is the very thing God desires for all of the body of Christ.”
When she and Les felt called to be missionaries, she asked this group to pray. The path was not easy, she writes that “Les came in from work and said that the work problem had been resolved. It looked like we could go after all.”
This happened many times. Yet, all obstacles were removed through prayer.
This harmony, guided by divine guidance, begins when we pray together.

The Spirit Unites Us in Love and Purpose
The stories in Our God Still Speaks show us one clear truth: God is building a family, using our joys, our struggles, and even our sorrows to weave us together.
The Holy Spirit unites believers so we are not alone on our journey; we are called to love, to serve, to give, and to pray for one another. This unity is our greatest strength and our most powerful witness to the world.
As Virginia learned through every chapter of her life, from Africa to the Philippines, God speaks.
And very often, He speaks through the loving words and actions of the person next to you in His family.
