Many people wonder, does God talk to us? The answer is a powerful yes. He does not only speak in grand, dramatic events. He often speaks through the simple, unexpected miracles of everyday life.

In the book Our God Still Speaks, Virginia Stewart Metzler shares true stories from her life as a missionary. These stories show how God made His voice heard in the middle of ordinary moments.

In often mysterious and often clear ways, He provided comfort, gave direction, and showed His great love. These are ordinary moments with divine meaning, showing how simple events can carry deep spiritual significance.

This is the heart of seeing daily signs of God’s presence. Understanding that the world around us and each of us is uniquely created by God, showing His intentional design and ongoing miracles in our daily lives.

Miracles of Everyday Life

We often look for God in significant, life-changing events. But the Bible tells us that God is also in the quiet, gentle moments.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10

Virginia learned this as a young bride in Africa. She felt far from home and everything familiar. One day, sitting in a busy city, she saw two things that made her smile. One was a bottle of Coca-Cola. The other was an old metal sign for Tide soap, used as a wall for a small shack.

To others, these were just everyday things.

But to Virginia, they were a personal message from God. These were signs from God that brought her comfort. They were a sign that He saw her and cared about her comfort.

God used these moments to bless her with comfort and reassurance, using a simple soda and a rusty sign to show her that she was not forgotten.

These experiences are ordinary moments instilled with divine meaning. This is one of the beautiful miracles of everyday life. It shows us that God’s work is often in small things that have significant meaning for our hearts.

The Miracles of Everyday Life in Our Needs

God knows what we need before we even ask. Sometimes, His answers are so direct that they can only be described as the miracles of everyday life.

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? – Matthew 6:26

While training in a remote village in the Philippines, Virginia and her husband, Les, ran out of food, so they prayed for help.

That very evening, a neighbor left a bundle of green beans at their door. Moments later, another friend arrived with a gift of chicken. The next day, a visiting friend showed up with a box filled with food, including their favorite candies.

God chose to perform this miracle for a specific divine purpose—providing exactly what was needed and strengthening their faith—turning what seemed impossible into reality through His intervention. This is a clear example of divine intervention. God did not just give them enough to survive. He provided a feast, so they would have faith in daily miracles.

It shows God’s work in small things, proving He is faithful to provide for our needs, both big and small, and reminding us of His grace in every provision.

Finding God’s Comfort in Heartbreak

Some of the most profound miracles of everyday life come when we are hurting. God’s voice can be a comfort when our hearts are broken.

And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. – Exodus 33:14

When Tommy was killed in a plane crash, Virginia’s world shattered.

She was now a widowed wife and still a young mother to two small children, who had already lost their father. She struggled to accept the loss and found it difficult to find hope again.

But in her most profound sadness, she found comfort through God’s presence and the support of others.

Through these acts of love and support, she began to experience healing. A friend gave her encouraging books. Her African friends, who had very little money, collected a gift for her and her children. This sacrificial love was a clear message from God.

These acts of kindness were ordinary moments but full of divine meaning. They helped her see everyday blessings even in her grief, showing that God’s love reaches us through the hands of others, and that the Savior brought her peace during her darkest moments.

How to See the Miracles Around You

You do not need to be a missionary in a far-off country to hear God’s voice. The miracles of everyday life are happening all around you, in all countries and across the years of your journey.

It starts with looking for them and aligning your life with God’s will. Pray for awareness and be careful not to seek miracles for the wrong reasons. Real miracles are genuine acts of God, not just coincidences.

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. – Psalm 32:8

Virginia learned to see God in everything: it was in the beauty of a tree covered in fireflies, reminding us of the miracle of fire like the burning bush. It was the help of a friend when her washing machine broke, and the smile of her adopted daughter that brightened her day.

These were all daily signs of God’s presence. To see these miracles, you must slow down and pay attention. Pray and talk to God about everything. Thank Him for the good things, no matter how small. This practice builds your faith in daily miracles. You begin to see His hand in the small stuff and recognize the everyday blessings He gives.

These are the miracles of everyday life.
